My Football Career Play

About My Football Career

You don't play the matches. You make the decisions that decide who you become: the kid who burned out at twenty, the idol of one terrace, or the name people argue about forever. It runs in the browser, it's free, there's no sign-up, and a full career takes about half an hour.

You create a footballer, choose where to start, and live roughly twenty seasons one decision at a time. The matches are simulated. Everything that decides how they go — what you train, which club you sign for, whether you play hurt, what you say to the press, who you become in the dressing room — is yours.

What you actually decide

Most career games ask you to play the games. This one asks you the questions football actually asks a player, and there are 395 of them, with 1,107 possible answers, all written by hand. You'll see around fifty-seven in a career, so it takes about seven runs before you start repeating.

The decisions that can go wrong

Most choices come with their outcome written: you pick, and you know what happens. The nine loudest ones don't. They name which attribute is on the line and carry two endings — you choose the intention, and what you built decides the result. The game tells you which attribute decides it, never the odds: you can see your composure in your profile, and that's what you bet with. A 90% that fails one time in ten is what makes the final worth playing.

How a season works

Every season runs match by match through your league, your domestic cup and whichever continental competition your club qualified for — the Champions League or Europa League in Europe, the Libertadores or Sudamericana in South America, the Concacaf Champions Cup in North America — based on where you finished last year. There's a Club World Cup every four years, an annual Intercontinental Cup, a World Cup, and five continental tournaments for national teams.

The world is 208 real clubs across 10 leagues, with two divisions, promotion and relegation. Clubs aren't fixed: each one moves through multi-year cycles, so a giant can go three years without winning anything and a small club can have the season of its life. Over twenty seasons you'll see three to five different champions in a league instead of the same one every year.

When the season stops — in December and in June — a newspaper front page comes out. Every headline comes from something the simulation actually did: the manager who got sacked and why, the teenager who debuted, the transfer fee, the champion, the club that went down. Nothing is invented.

Your player

Twelve attributes, seven positions, 24 nationalities. Eight attributes train, decay with age and have a ceiling you're never shown — scouts only ever give you an estimate. The other four have rules of their own: aerial ability opens a separate route to goal from corners and crosses; shooting power earns you free kicks and penalties, but only if you're better at it than the rest of your squad; composure isn't trained at all, it accumulates through seasons and finals played, and never decays; and leadership is the one attribute that doesn't improve you — it improves your team.

You also start by stealing two traits from footballing archetypes in the Legend Draft, from a pool of twelve, and you can pick up more of the twenty traits along the way, by living them.

How a career ends

There's no winning. There's a verdict, from Wasted Talent through Solid Professional, Club Icon, Star, World Class and Global Legend, up to Immortal — which about two careers in a thousand reach. It's built from goals, assists, appearances, trophies, Ballon d'Or wins, World Cups and the peak you actually hit. From your thirties on, you can hang up your boots whenever you want.

You can send a finished career to a global leaderboard. When you do, the server replays your entire career with its own copy of the engine and recalculates the score. If the number doesn't match, the run is rejected. Nothing the browser says is taken on faith, and the seed is handed out by the server, so nobody can farm a thousand careers locally and submit the luckiest one. Verification takes about seven milliseconds.

Sending a career is voluntary. Your career is saved in your own browser. The privacy policy lists exactly what is sent.
