Playing
Is My Football Career free?
Yes. Free, no account, no sign-up, no ads and no purchases of any kind.
How long does a career take?
About half an hour at the standard pace, for roughly twenty seasons. There are three speeds: Express runs a year in one block, Standard splits it in two halves, and Immersive goes match by match with the full newspaper. The decisions and the rules are identical in all three — what changes is how often the screen stops.
Do I play the matches?
No, and that's the point. Matches are simulated from your attributes, your form, your role in the squad and the level around you. What you control is everything that decides how they go.
Can I lose?
Yes. Careers end at nineteen with a wasted talent, at twenty-six with a knee, or in a division you never meant to be in. The decisions with no good way out are the ones people remember.
Are the clubs real?
The 208 clubs and 10 leagues are real, with their own colours; the crests are simple generated shields, not official badges. Players, managers and teammates are invented: no real person is named anywhere in the game.
What languages is it available in?
English and Spanish. The Spanish is Rioplatense, and it's the original — the events were written in it, then translated into English.
Saving and devices
Do I need to download anything?
No. It's a single web page that runs in any modern browser, on a phone or a computer. You can add it to your home screen and it works with no connection at all.
Does my career save?
Yes, automatically, in your own browser — including the state of the random number generator, so reloading the page can't be used to re-roll a bad result. Clearing your browser data deletes it.
Can I continue on another device?
No. The save lives in the browser where you started the career, and there are no accounts to move it between devices.
The world ranking
How does the world ranking work?
When a career ends you can send it to the global leaderboard. The server replays your whole career with its own copy of the game engine and recalculates the score, so only careers that were really played that way get in.
Why was my career rejected?
The usual reasons: the career started while you were offline, so the server never handed out its seed; more than six hours passed between opening the game and sending the career; it was already sent once; or the game was updated in the middle of your career, so the server's replay no longer gives the same score.
What do you do with my data?
Your career stays in your browser. We use Google Analytics to count visits and game moments like starting or finishing a career, and you can accept or reject it. Only a career you choose to send to the ranking is stored on our server, and its footballer's name and stats are public. The privacy policy has the details.
